Tevva plans to sell about 1,000 electric trucks to customers this year, including Royal Mail and Travis Perkins.

British electric vehicle startup Tevva aims to sell about 1,000 electric trucks this year after receiving approval from U.K. and European authorities, according to a press release.

The company added that deliveries of its 7.5-tonne battery-electric truck had already begun to customers, including Royal Mail and Travis Perkins, which is part of International Distributions Services.

The standard electric truck will be followed later in 2023 by a 7.5-ton hydrogen-electric truck that will benefit from hydrogen fuel cells that can increase the vehicle’s range to 354 miles.

Tevva, which will publicly unveil its first truck in June 2022, has raised $140 million to date, including £42 million last November.

“We are on a mission to make sustainable trucks accessible at scale and believe our technology will empower the transport sector and the governments of Europe to meet their net-zero goals,” said Tevva chief executive Asher Bennett.

Approval in the UK and EU means it can “begin mass production and sales”, marking an “important milestone” since its founding in 2013.

“We continue to ‘charge on’ as a company and reach new milestones, with type approval being the latest and most important landmark we’ve achieved to date,” said Bennett.

With a 105-kWh battery and a range of 140 miles, its battery-electric trucks are “ideal for urban delivery fleets,” the company said.
