Electric car drivers will soon be able to benefit from smart Waze mapping capabilities, and experts will talk about how it will improve people’s driving experience.

Maps app Waze, which is estimated to have more than 130 million users, is rolling out a new feature aimed at helping electric vehicle drivers around the world. The new feature allows drivers to identify the correct charging point for their specific vehicle needs locally or along the route.

The app will also be able to plan stops in advance for a smoother journey while reducing driver stress.

Thanks to the app’s native map editors from the Waze community, Electric Vehicle data is checked and updated in real time.

It’s the first of many new Electric Vehicle based updates the company will roll out, all supported by a community of volunteers.

Charging station information is often inconsistent, outdated or unreliable, becoming a major pain point for electric vehicle drivers who may navigate to a charging station only to find it is nowhere to be found or not available.

By adding the latest Electric Vehicle charging information to Waze maps, they can more easily charge their car without worrying about where or when they’ll find a charger next time.

In the app’s settings, drivers can enter a number of processes, including their vehicle type, preferred fuel type, avoid tolls and avoid license plate restrictions.

From April, drivers in the UK will be able to choose Electric Vehicle features, including being able to choose a charging connector for their vehicle, to avoid charging stations without the correct connector.

Drivers can choose from popular chargers and adapters, including Type 1 and Type 2, CHAdeMO, CCS fast chargers, and even the Tesla Superchargers.

The map then shows them a list of possible options and information about the number of chargers, the type of plug and even how to find them.

Ru Roberts, Waze’s UK country manager, spoke about the launch and how it will make life easier for Electric Vehicle drivers.

1100 Electric Vehicle chargers were installed in September.

He said: “At Waze, we’re committed to helping improve drivers’ journeys.

“Transitioning to using an electric vehicle comes with its challenges, but knowing where the next charging point is with your plug type can help your trip in real-time and when planning a longer journey.

“By offering the information in one place, Waze helps to give drivers the tools they need to plan their journeys with confidence.

£56 million public and industry funding for charging stations.

“Waze local Map Editors assess Electric Vehicle data to ensure users have access to the most accurate, up-to-date information available to help make it easier to find the nearest charging station.”

At the end of February 2023, there were 23,066 charging points in the UK, with a total of 38,982 charging points for electric vehicles.

According to Zap Map data, this represents a 33% increase in the total number of chargers since February 2022.

America wants charging electric cars to be as painless as refueling.

Waze wants to make it easier and more convenient for Electric Vehicle drivers to charge their vehicles while on the go.

Whether you are preparing for a long summer trip or a short shopping trip, the app is dedicated to providing users with the latest charging station data anytime, anywhere.
