The study, conducted by the International Drivers Association, analyzed the number of Electric Vehicle charging points on Zap Map and ONS data to determine which areas of the UK with a population of more than 100,000 had the highest number of charging points per 100,000 people.
The figures show Milton Keynes is the region with the highest number of charging points per 100,000 population at 137.3.
This is due to a total of 371 charging points and a population of 270,203. The region also has the highest number of fast chargers at 121.
The region has a total of 485 charging points, significantly more than Milton Keynes, but a population of 379,387 means the region has slightly fewer charging points than Milton Keynes.
With 344 public charging stations and a population of 291,738, the southern city has 117.9 charging stations per 100,000 people.
Brighton also has the third highest number of charging points at 344, behind Coventry and Milton Keynes.
Dundee is the fifth best place to own an Electric Vehicle, with 87.4 chargers per 100,000 people.
The worst area in the UK to own an electric car is Bolton, which has the lowest number of charging points per resident at just 8.3 for every 100,000 available.
With 24 public charging stations and a population of 288,248, the Bolton region has the fewest access to charging points for electric vehicle owners.
Walsall is the second worst place in the UK for Electric Vehicle owners, with a population of 286,716 and just 24 charging points across the region.
This equates to 8.4 public charging stations per 100,000 people – the second lowest of all regions analysed.
The southeastern region of Southend-on-Sea has the third-lowest proportion of charging points for Electric Vehicle owners, with just 9.8 charging points per 100,000 residents.
The coastal town of 182,773 residents has 18 public charging stations, three of which are fast chargers.
A spokesperson from International Drivers Association commented on the findings: “The UK’s charging infrastructure still has a way to go despite the many benefits that electric vehicles have to offer.
“It will be fascinating to see, particularly as fuel costs continue to rise, how the electrical charging landscape continues to evolve over the coming years.”
