Your choices in the market are also growing, from traditional family sedans and executive sedans to SUVs and luxury sedans. Today, there really is an Electric Vehicle that will fit most drivers, and there are great benefits to operating a company car—especially since the current benefit in kind (BIK) rate for EVs is only 2%.
With that in mind, these are the best company cars if you plan to go electric.
Audi Q4 e-tron
The Audi Q4 e-tron is a snazzy option among electric SUVs, so we whisper it’s closely related to the more affordable Skoda Enyaq iV below. That’s not a bad thing, though, and our favorite Model 40 managed 266 miles of range in our field testing. It also feels lively, cruising quietly at high speed. The chassis creates a good mix of comfort and agility, and the tight turning circle makes the Q4 e-tron easy to park.
Interior quality is excellent, as you’d expect, with the Q4 e-tron featuring details like three-zone climate control, heated front seats and 19-inch alloy wheels.
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 may not look like it in pictures, but it’s actually quite big. Walking towards it is like witnessing the realization of a special effect, which is getting bigger and bigger.
The good news is that the size translates to the type of interior you typically find in a wedding car. Its rear seats slide back and forth as needed, and the backrests recline. There’s also plenty of room in the front for two people.
We prefer the model with the 70 kilowatt hour battery, which offers up to 298 miles of range and a 7.0-second 0-60mph acceleration, but while the Ioniq 5 is comfortable, it definitely prefers a more relaxed winding road.
Kia Niro EV
When it comes to battery choice, Kia has taken a “take it or leave it” approach because there’s only one. A 64.8 kilowatt hour battery powers a 201 hp electric motor, giving the Niro EV a decent acceleration from the get-go. The system is gentle and capable of altering regenerative braking so you hardly ever need to use the brakes around town.
The interior is spacious, so the Niro EV will be a great family car and a great company car. The boot is also large, and cable storage under the bonnet helps keep the boot tidy.
Standard features on each model include phone charging, dual-zone climate control, adaptive cruise control and heated seats.
Volkswagen ID 3
At launch, the Volkswagen ID 3 showed that its maker was serious about its electric future. It looks different, and that funky style benefits from roomy front and rear seats, while the boot is just as practical.
The ride is smooth, but handling is decent, and the ID 3 is nimble around town, with a tight turning circle that rivals even an uptown car.
The Life trim is our favorite because it comes with heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, front and rear parking sensors, and adaptive cruise control.
Anyone who imagines Cupra Born as a Volkswagen ID 3 in sneakers and skinny shorts is not wrong. The two cars are nearly identical, but Cupra lowered the suspension slightly to simplify the ride and make its handling sharper.
The 201hp motor means the Cupra can get off quickly, and the 58 kilowatt hour battery gives it an official range of 258 miles, when it should actually be around 220 miles.
The V2 trim is the best option as it comes with heated front seats, privacy glass and a head-up display.
BMW sedans are synonymous with the corporate car market, and the BMW i4 brought the electric age on fire.
The entry-level eDrive40 is ideal for most drivers, offering the gleaming performance of the i4 and an official range of up to 367 miles. In the real world, this should equate to about 300 miles, which should be enough for drivers with higher mileage.
It’s also quiet, with minimal road and wind noise, and there’s hardly any whine from the electric motor.
Even better, if you can find a powerful enough charging point, the 200 kilowatt charging capacity can take you from 10% to 80% in about 30 minutes.
The BMW iX3 is a high-tech SUV with a fearless face. So while the BMW iX3 looks exactly like the fossil-fueled X3, it has state-of-the-art electrical performance.
It has an official range of up to 285 miles, which should equate to around 220 miles under normal conditions. You’ll love those miles, too, because the BMW iX3 is easy to drive. It handles neatly and is lively and pleasant.
It also comes with plenty of standard kit, including a power tailgate, panoramic sunroof, parking sensors and leather upholstery, all of which are included in our favorite M Sport trim.
Skoda Enyaq iV
If ever there was a car that made electric propulsion look completely normal, the Skoda Enyaq was that car. It’s usually a Skoda, as it’s a slightly sober-looking SUV that barely reveals what’s underneath.
There’s plenty of room inside, both front and back, and the boot is huge.
It’s brisk and not fast, but comfortable enough around town and on faster roads, though definitely not fun on the menu; the stately curb weight ensures that. Still, the official range is 256 miles, which should be more than enough for most drivers.
What’s more, with a BIK bill of just £148 a year – if you’re a 20% taxpayer – it’s a real bargain when you consider how many cars it can get you.
Best Electric Company Cars Kia EV6
It’s big and luxurious, which means you can take yourself and others for long drives in perfect comfort.
Far away? Oh yes, because the EV6 has an official charging range of 328 miles and can charge at a blisteringly fast 239 kilowatts.
Standard kit includes dual-zone air conditioning, electrically adjustable and heated front seats, automatic lights and wipers, and cruise control.
The downsides are few and far between: the shoes are a bit flat and can feel sticky at times. However, there is nothing you can’t stand.
Best Electric Company Cars Tesla Model 3
The Tesla Model 3 is selling in large numbers for a good reason: It’s an excellent free-rider.
First, it’s very fast, and most importantly, it’s competitive and comfortable at distance.
It handles well, and while the ride is firm, it’s not overpowering. It’s a shame that the huge, spot-stealing touchscreen isn’t as user-friendly as more traditional interiors.
Still, considering Tesla’s official 374 miles of range (or 284 miles in real-world use) and Tesla’s excellent charging network, it’s easy to see why the Model 3 is unbeatable as the best company car we can recommend. status.
