Wallbox Pulsar Plus is compatible with all electric vehicles on the market.
It is available in black or white.
It comes with a Three-year warranty as standard.
The unit is compact.
Tethered charging cable only. (so the charging cable is connected) There is no untethered version because it is too small.
Raspberry pi card installed.
In-app security. The charger can be locked to prevent it from being used.
If you want to add a power boost, optional load balancing is around an extra £99. This is not standard with this charger. (This means that as the demand in your home fluctuates with energy usage, it adjusts so you don’t trigger the main fuse. This also comes in handy if you have a second charger, as it ensures you don’t overload the power supply.)
Firmware updatable making it future proof.
No earth rod required. This may mean less disruption, no digging into your drive etc to install an earth rod.
Compatible with Intelligent Octopus tariffs.
Solar option isn’t yet available.
Wallbox is a Spanish company founded in 2015 and headquartered in Madrid. They formed a joint venture with China’s Changchun FAWSN and moved from Spain to China in 2018. In 2020, they returned to Spain to open their new headquarters in Barcelona.
Wallbox currently offers four different Electric Vehicle home chargers with lower entry points. The Wallbox Pulsar Plus, one of their cheaper options, is a “dumb” charging unit.
You can pay around £650 through an OLEV grant.
The added bonus of a performance boost, which is a great feature, but it’s not included by default.
The app is very simple, clean and easy to use. It has large buttons for easy navigation. You can easily schedule charging times and lock your device so no one can use it while you’re away. Charging history can be accessed in the app. However, you can’t do anything too complicated in the app like link it to a smart plan like Octopus Agile, but if you want a simple app this is for you.
To install the app, you must be within the range of Wallbox Pulsar Plus. I recommend standing next to the charger. The app connects to the charger via bluetooth, which I also think is great because you don’t have to worry about your WiFi connection.
The Pulsar plus doesn’t offer smart charging, so you can’t associate it with Octopus Agile tariffs etc. This may change in the future.
Wallbox was founded in Barcelona, Spain in 2015 by Enric Asunción and Eduard Castañeda as Wall Box Chargers. In 2017, Wallbox won the first place in the European startup competition South Summit. Wallbox then finished third in the Startup World Cup in May 2018. In October 2019, Wallbox created the Quasar, the world’s first two-way home charger.
Quasar was named a Best of CES product in January 2020.
On June 9, 2021, Wallbox announced a merger with Kensington Capital Acquisition Corp., a special purpose company. The company raised about $330 million from a range of investors including Janus Henderson Investors, Luxor Capital, Cathay Innovation and Kensington Capital Partners. The deal closed on October 4, 2021.
Wallbox stock is listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol WBX. During Super Bowl LVI, Wallbox was the first EV company to advertise during the big game.
