Virgin Media O2 will install EV charging points in the homes of all its fleet drivers.

Liberty Global has ordered 280 new electric vans to be deployed in customers’ homes.

It has partnered with Liberty Charge, a joint venture between Liberty and Zouk Capital, to deploy charging points on both fixed and mobile networks using a “mine once” approach.

The only way to encourage businesses and the public to switch to electric vehicles in time to meet the UK’s 2050 net-zero emissions target is to make car charging points widely available and accessible to all.

As part of the move, drivers of Virgin Media O2’s fleet of 4,300 vehicles will also receive charging points in their own homes. Virgin Media O2 already provides electric vehicle charging for staff at its Slough, Reading and Hammersmith offices.

As part of the trial, O2 has converted two Renault TWIZY electric cars into CAVs and fitted them with lidar sensors for autonomous driving and low-speed remote control.

Virgin Media was actually founded in 2006, although in just a year it became the first company to offer home phone, TV, broadband and mobile plans. It has come a long way over the years and, as you might expect, remains one of the most innovative broadband service providers in the country.

In March 2010, the company announced the start of trials to deliver broadband and TV services through utility poles in Woolhampton, Berkshire. Capable of delivering speeds of up to 50Mb, if the trial is successful, it will give hope to more than a million households in the UK; especially those in rural areas.

Virgin Media is a British telecommunications company which provides telephone, television and internet services in the United Kingdom. Its headquarters are at Green Park in Reading, England.[2] It is owned by Virgin Media O2, a 50:50 joint venture between Liberty Global and Telefónica.

As of December 31, 2012, the total number of cable TV subscribers was approximately 4.8 million, of which approximately 3.79 million used its television service (Virgin TV), approximately 4.2 million used broadband Internet service, and approximately 4.1 million used fixed-line telephone service. On the same day, it had around 3 million mobile phone customers.

Since acquiring Smallworld Cable in 2014, Virgin Media has been the UK’s main cable provider, with the exception of WightFibre on the Isle of Wight, which now covers 51% of UK households. Virgin Media competes primarily with Sky Group, BT Group and TalkTalk in broadband and EE, Vodafone and Three in mobile.

Virgin continues to offer some of the most impressive broadband speeds year after year. However, it launched a 152Mb downstream broadband service in November 2013. This is the fastest fibre broadband in the UK.

It may be one of the best-known broadband providers on the market, but while you may have heard of the brand, you may not know much about its broadband service. Below you’ll find some great facts about the company and its broadband services…

All of their plans are fiber – most broadband providers give you the option to upgrade to fiber, but offer a standard basic plan.

Virgin Media was voted #1 by Ofcom in the UK Broadband Speed Test in July 2009 and 2010 – if you’re looking for a fast, reliable connection then Virgin is definitely your first choice. Even as of May 2016, speed tests showed it was actually very close to the advertised speed.

Fibre broadband is delivered to cabinets on the street, not to customers’ homes – one of the most unique things about Virgin Atlantic is that it doesn’t deliver broadband packages directly to homes. Instead, they run through cables connected to cabinets located on the street. You’d think that means it won’t wrap as fast as its rivals, but as you can see above, that’s far from the truth.

The above are just three useful facts about Virgin Broadband’s service. Proving year after year, it is one of the major players in the market, offering the fastest speeds.

Virgin is considered by some to be one of the best broadband providers overall, with the only potential downside being that you’ll have to install cable in your home to benefit from its fiber optic package if you don’t already have it.
