As the number of electric vehicles in Harrogate continues to grow, the Town Council will install new electric vehicle (EV) charging points in multiple parking lots in the area.

The Borough Council has confirmed that it will submit a report seeking approval to appoint a contractor who will install charging points at the following locations during the New Year period:

Harrogate Hornbeam Park Railway Station parking lot.

Harrogate Victorian Multi-Storey Car Park

Chapel Street car park in Knaresborough

Southlands car park in Pateley Bridge

Cathedral car park in Ripon

Harrogate Borough Council’s Carbon Emissions and Sustainability Cabinet Member Phil Ireland said: “The purchase of electric vehicles in Harrogate has rapidly increased, surpassing all other areas in North Yorkshire.

“If we are to achieve the goal of net zero emissions by 2038, it is important that we support those residents who can afford to buy electric vehicles and encourage more cycling and walking.

These new charging points will support the economic use of electric vehicles by our residents and our visitors. “

Harrogate council has and will continue to install charging points at council sites to support the electrification of fleet vehicles in line with the council’s Ultra-Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV) strategy.

To support the exponential growth of EVs across the Harrogate district, all new housing developments in the district are also equipped with charging points and a dedicated electric circuit to supply the demand.

Any company, organization or town and parish council that wants to learn more about electric vehicle charging stations should contact the council via transport@harrogate.gov.uk, and they will be more than happy to help.

In conclusion, this can only be a good thing for Air Quality in the District!
